Salt and Light – and You.

[Pearls Ep 157:  Preparing for Sunday.]

In this Sunday’s Gospel reading (5th Sunday of Ordinary Time, Week A), Jesus presents the comparison of salt and light (Mt 5:13-16).  We’re called to be the “salt of the earth” and the “light of the world.”

In this week’s Pearls of the Interior Life, and our follow-up messages, we look a little deeper at this – especially we consider the reality that the world doesn’t always welcome salt and light.  We consider three rules of engagement based on our three enemies – human woundedness, the fallen world, and satan.

As a specific example, I look at the context of radical trans ideology and a conversation I had with a friend of Fr. James Martin, that took a surprising (more accurately, disturbing) turn.

Most important for all of us is to understand what being “salt and light” means for us – and that God’s plan for how we live that out might be much different than our expectations.

Blessings on your journey with Christ –

Postscript:  Mt 5:13-16

Jesus said to his disciples:
“You are the salt of the earth.
But if salt loses its taste, with what can it be seasoned?
It is no longer good for anything
but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.
You are the light of the world.
A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden.
Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket;
it is set on a lampstand,
where it gives light to all in the house.
Just so, your light must shine before others,
that they may see your good deeds
and glorify your heavenly Father.”
