This weekend brings us to Palm Sunday – the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem.
Much can be said about this – not the least of which is that it is yet another example of God’s ironic sense of humor – Christ, King of the Universe, entering His royal city on a mule – a stark contrast to the customary entry of worldly kings, puffed up with retinues and legions and all manner of pomp.
But in this week’s Pearls we focus on the tale of two crowds – the crowd that spreads palms before Christ (or cloaks, in Luke’s version) and the crowd that, soon after, calls for His crucifixion – and the likelihood that many fell into the schizophrenic lot of participating in both.
Especially we’ll look at how this applies to our spiritual life. Because all of us to one extent or another have experienced the whipsawing of fortunes – be it in our own interior when circumstances swing us from joy to misery, or our experience of the fickle world around us that can turn on a dime.
One thing is for certain – life will continue to place curves in our way. We’re well served to spend time Christ – who in the week ahead shows us how He can make all our paths straight.
Blessings on your journey with Christ –
