This weekend we celebrate the feast of the Most Holy Trinity – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
The nature of the groups we hang out with tends to characterize what comprises the “hanging out.”
Karen had many friends through work and their time together tended to reflect that. Steve had some friends who were thrill-seekers, and time with them reflected that. And, as it went, we had friends who were more of the “party crowd” and time with them reflected that as well.
Fortunately, God also placed friends in our life with whom we’ve been able to share more deeply and grow.
On a side note, it’s always interesting to learn of Saints who kept the company of other Saints. By sharing life together God was at work to elevate them both.
So, if we are to “share in the life of the Trinity” – what should we expect that “sharing” to look like?
This Sunday’s scripture gives some insights.
Sunday’s Gospel reading, John 3:16-18, reveals a Father who gives good gifts, and Son who came to save us.
And in the second reading, 2nd Corinthians 13:11-13, we see the action of the Holy Spirit in Paul’s desire that each of us should, “Mend your ways, encourage one another, agree with one another, live in peace, and the God of love and peace will be with you.”
These passages reflect the relationship – the “values” so to speak – of the Trinity. The more we become part of Their world, the more our life will resemble Theirs; especially as reflected in Sacred Scripture.
Blessings on your journey with Christ (and the Father and Holy Spirit) –
Steve and Karen Smith
Postscript: Sunday’s scripture and the life of the Trinity
Gospel, Jn 3:16-18
God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him will not be condemned, but whoever does not believe has already been condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
Reading 2, 2 Cor 13:11-13
Brothers and sisters, rejoice. Mend your ways, encourage one another, agree with one another, live in peace, and the God of love and peace will be with you. Greet one another with a holy kiss. All the holy ones greet you. The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with all of you.
