Pearls Ep 136: Where’s the salami?

In this week’s episode of Pearls of the Interior Life, we look at some of the lessons of forgiveness and mercy that occur “off script” in the parable of the Prodigal Son.

In my prior life as a consultant, I had a particularly tough New York client (redundant…).  Always pushing for more – do additional investigation, conduct a different analysis, include more in the report, all the while saying, “for what I’m paying, I need to see the salami…”.

The Gospel messages of the past few weeks have been challenging – they ask quite a bit of us – denouncing, preparing, detaching, and so on.

This Sunday we get the salami.  In the parable of the Prodigal Son, God shows us His heart of boundless mercy.

Of course, the denouncing, preparing, and detaching are just as merciful – God asks them of us because they will draw us to Him.

That said, this Sunday’s parable invites us to dive deep into forgiveness and mercy.  God desires us to not only receive His forgiveness and mercy but to emulate it, because that is the path to being fully human – by engaging in what is truly divine.
