Praying with Inspiring Songs

Praying with Inspiring Songs is easy as 1, 2, 3 (and 4).   Each of these steps is summarized below.

Does that mean that praying, itself, is always easy?  No.  Prayer is a discipline; as with all disciplines it’s fruits come with persistence and guidance.  Inspiring Songs is consistently expanded with new songs to pray with, new explanations of spiritual terms and concepts (in Interior) and new reflections and musings (in Reveries) – all based on the model of Christ, Sacred Scripture, and the Church’s great spiritual tradition.

The Basics:

First, pray for the Holy Spirit to guide this time of prayer and then simply select a song.

Select a song by clicking on the image or song name.  When you come to the individual song page (as shown in Step 4), you’ll find you can listen to just the song as well as the song followed by approximately 5 minutes of gentle meditation music.  The meditation music is based on the song to help you stay connected to whatever thoughts and inspirations may have begun during the song.

Highlighted phrases in the lyrics connect to a separate reflection.

The reflections tie the song to the wisdom of the Church and everyday experiences we all share. The reflections are there to help you in the process of moving away from the noise of the world and closer to silence and the movements of your heart.

At the end of each reflection are suggested scripture verses (related to the reflection).

This is a good time to recall that you’re in the presence of the Holy Spirit, and that scripture is the living Word of God.  Meditate with that scripture (or any other scripture that comes to you) – allowing it to enter into you and you to enter into it.

When the song ends allow yourself to remain in silence.

How long you spend in silence is between you and the Holy Spirit.  Spiritual masters recommend at least 15-30 minutes of silent, mental prayer each day (5 minutes is a great place to start).  Will distractions come during this time?  Inevitably.  But don’t let that discourage you!  Be at peace and remain determined to return your mind to God until you’ve completed your time of prayer.  Endeavor to remain in prayer for the full period that you committed to – even if it’s challenging, don’t stop early.  You’ll be glad you did.
